Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 October 2026
This policy is provided as-is, in plain language, and does not constitute legal advice. If you need a legal opinion on how this applies to you, consult a lawyer.
Identity & account data
Account creation and sign-in are handled entirely by a third-party authentication provider acting as our data processor. It collects and stores your email address, name, and, if you sign in through an external sign-in provider, the profile information that provider shares as part of the sign-in flow. We do not store your password. We will name our current processors on request — email the address in the Contact section below.
Age check
Before you can use ThematicView we ask for your date of birth to confirm you are 18 or older. We calculate your age on our server and store only the result (over 18 or not) and when you answered. We use that date to time your free trial. We do not store your date of birth.
Payments & billing
Memberships are paid through Stripe, which acts as our payment processor and, for some purposes such as fraud prevention and financial regulation, as an independent controller under its own privacy policy. Stripe collects your card or other payment details, your name, billing address and country, and any tax ID you add. Stripe uses these to take payment, calculate the right sales tax or VAT, and prevent fraud. We never receive or store your full card number. We store your Stripe customer ID and your membership status (active, cancelled, renewal date) so we know whether to give you access. Stripe shares with us your name, email, billing country and address, the last four digits and brand of your card, and your invoices, which we need for tax records.
Product data you store
Watchlists, custom stock baskets, and trading journal entries you create are stored in our database, hosted by a third-party infrastructure provider, and tied to your account. Watchlists and custom baskets are also mirrored into your browser's localStorage so they load instantly on your next visit and remain usable offline for a moment before syncing — this is a local cache of your own data, not a separate copy we collect. Screener and dashboard results are cached in the same way to speed up repeat visits.
Usage data
We log which of a small set of core pages (dashboard, screener, ETF tracker, sub-themes, watchlist, news, admin) a signed-in user visits, for internal product analytics. We use a third-party performance-measurement tool to record page performance (load times, Core Web Vitals) — it sets no cookies and does not identify you personally.
We also use a third-party traffic-analytics provider to understand aggregate traffic patterns across the site, but only if you accept it on the cookie banner. Once accepted it may record your IP address (typically truncated or anonymised) and standard browser metadata. Until you accept, its script is never loaded. You can withdraw that consent at any time from the Cookies section below, and you can block it independently with your browser's do-not-track or ad-blocking controls.
Infrastructure
The application is hosted by a third-party hosting provider. We use a third-party managed cache for rate limiting and for caching frequently requested market data — that store holds request counters and cached market data, not your personal profile information.
Market data providers
We source market data from third-party market-data providers. These providers supply data to ThematicView — we do not send them any of your personal information.
Cookies
Our authentication provider sets a strictly-necessary session cookie required to keep you signed in. That one is not optional — without it you cannot stay signed in.
Our traffic-analytics provider sets cookies used to distinguish sessions and visitors for aggregate traffic analytics. It is off until you accept it: the script is not loaded and no analytics cookie is written unless you choose "Accept all" on the cookie banner. Choosing "Accept essential", or ignoring the banner, leaves it off. You can change your mind at any time:
Why we use your data (legal bases)
- To provide the service you pay for (contract): your account, membership, product data, billing.
- To meet legal obligations: tax and accounting records, the age requirement, answering lawful requests.
- Legitimate interests: security, fraud and abuse prevention, rate limiting, basic product analytics about which core pages are used.
- Consent: optional analytics cookies and the newsletter. You can withdraw consent at any time.
We do not sell your personal information, share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, or use it for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
International transfers
Some of our providers, including our hosting, authentication and payment providers, process data in the United States and other countries. Where data leaves the EU/EEA or UK, we rely on adequacy decisions (including the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified) or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, with the UK addendum where needed.
Retention & your rights
We retain your account and product data for as long as your account is active, and delete it when you delete your account (Settings → Privacy & data). Invoices and payment records are the exception: tax law requires them to be kept, usually for up to 10 years depending on the country, so Stripe and we keep them for that period even after the account is deleted. You can request access to, export of, correction of, or deletion of your data at any time by emailing support@thematicview.com. If you are in the EU, UK, or a jurisdiction with similar protections, you have rights under GDPR/UK GDPR including access, rectification, erasure, and data portability. If you are a California resident, you have rights under the CCPA to know what personal information we hold and to request its deletion. We will respond to verified requests within a reasonable time.
US state privacy rights. Residents of California (CCPA/CPRA) and of other states with consumer privacy laws (including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon and others) can ask to know, access, correct, delete and get a portable copy of their personal information. You can also appeal if we refuse a request. We don't sell or "share" personal information as those laws define it, and we won't treat you differently for using your rights. You can use an authorised agent. We may need to confirm your identity first.
Complaints. If you are in the EU/EEA you can complain to your local data protection authority. In the UK you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). We'd appreciate the chance to fix it first, so please write to us at the address below.
Children
ThematicView is only for adults aged 18 or older. We ask every user to confirm their age before using the service. If someone tells us they are under 18, we block access and delete the account. If you believe a minor has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of ThematicView after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
